“I will produce a series of 60 works on paper, approximately 5″ x 7″ each. These studio works are developed from my on-site graphite drawings of the aspen tree. The drawings are then abstracted employing patterns and lines that reference early topographical maps from the 19th century explorations of the American West. They are done using watercolor, gouache and archival ink pigment markers. I will use this opportunity to continue to play with figure ground relationships and formal aspects of painting through color and line.
Upon completion, each drawing will be affixed inside an acid-free foam core folder with clear conservation corners and each piece will be titled on the front of the folder. Titles are usually appropriated from geographical terms for natural land formations.”
